UK BASED HEALTH & WELLNESS EXPERT

Meet Alex Manos

I am a certified nutritional therapist and was one of the first 18 practitioners in the U.K to certify with the Institute of Functional Medicine (2016). Due to my history of IBS/SIBO I initially specialised in gut related disorders, and now work extensively with clients suffering with mould related illnesses. I wrote his MSc dissertation on cortisol resistance in chronic fatigue syndrome and have extensive experience supporting clients with chronic fatigue syndrome.

In my early career I was a personal trainer, massage therapist and performance coach and I integrate these where appropriate in to my current work.

Through my own healing journey I gained a keen interest in the role that breathwork and psychedelics can play and more recently I have certified as a Transformational Breathwork Facilitator and trained with The Synthesis Institute to become a Psychedelic Practitioner.

My vision is to provide a truly holistic approach to supporting people regain, or optimise, their health so they can live a truly fulfilling life.

I am also a husband, and a dad to two boys.

Clinician | Trainer | Coach | Mentor

Expanding on my professional life away from clinic, I am a mentor to nutritional therapists, functional medicine practitioners and GP’s having co-founded The Applied Functional Medicine Mentoring Program.

I also lecture at various colleges and institutions including The Institute Of Optimum Nutrition and on the MSc program at The Centre For Nutritional Education and Lifestyle Management.

Most recently I was awarded a Distinguished Faculty Award for my contributions to the development of clinical nutrition and lifestyle medicine education, as part of my work with The Academy of Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine.

My Journey

Foundation in Movement & Performance

Early Career

I began my journey studying human movement and performance with world-leading organisations including NASM, EXOS, The Gray Institute, Functional Movement Systems, and Cor-Kinetic.

This is where I first understood how essential movement and exercise are within a holistic model of health.

Advanced Education in Nutrition

BSc & MSc

I completed a degree in Nutritional Therapy, achieving a 1st Class Honours, followed by a Master’s in Personalised Nutrition.

This deepened my ability to understand complex health conditions at a root-cause level.

Functional Medicine & Clinical Training

2016

I graduated from the Institute for Functional Medicine, becoming one of a small number of certified practitioners in the UK at the time.

Alongside this, I trained in:

Applied Functional Science (Gray Institute)
Performance Coaching (NASM & EXOS)

Clinical Practice & Specialisation

Ongoing

Through years of clinical work, I’ve developed a focus on complex chronic conditions

Particularly:
Gut health (SIBO, IBS)
Chronic fatigue
Mould-related illness

Healthpath Co-Founder

2018

I co-founded Healthpath, a platform providing at-home gut testing with personalised practitioner recommendations.

This was built to make functional testing more accessible and actionable.

Practitioner Education & Mentorship

2019 – Present

I co-created the Applied Functional Medicine Mentoring Program, supporting healthcare practitioners entering the functional medicine space.

The focus is on real clinical application not protocol-based learning.

Mind-Body & Breathwork Integration

2019 – Present

After a transformative experience at the Synthesis Retreat, I expanded into breathwork and mind-body practices.

This led to certifications in:

Oxygen Advantage Breathwork
Transformational Breath Facilitation
Psychedelic Practitioner training

This work reinforced a key truth: health isn’t just physical, it’s deeply emotional and behavioural.

Behaviour Change & Coaching

Current

I am currently training as a Transformational Life Coach, recognising that lasting change isn’t just about knowing what to do but being able to do it.

Chief Wellness Officer – Exhale Coffee

Current

I work with Exhale Coffee, exploring the intersection of performance, health, and everyday habits — including the role coffee can play in wellbeing.

Global Virtual Practice

Today

I now run a virtual clinic, supporting clients around the world with complex, chronic health conditions.

My Story

My Own Health Journey

I was a keen athlete growing up. A plague of injuries however, in my teenage years, fuelled my passion for personal training. It was when I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) at 18, that both my passion for nutrition, and, my journey really began.

At 18, rather than being out on the rugby pitch with my friends, I was having to sleep for up to two hours, struggling with fatigue, brain fog, stomach cramps, and terrible acne. Told I might have to live with IBS for the rest of my life, I questioned the view and began carrying out my own research.

This led me to study at the renowned Institute of Optimum Nutrition (ION) where I graduated as a Nutritional Therapist.
